How to Create a Winning Speech for the Security Festival?

Would you like to be on stage at the Security Festival 2025? We share our tips on how to get your talk selected.

  1. Use a catchy and motivating title: The title is your first handshake with the attendees. It needs to be engaging and tell a story. Remember, the title you write in your proposal will be visible on the agenda and is the first thing your audience sees when selecting sessions. Make it unique and relevant!
  2. Use a vivid description : This is key to capturing the attention of your attendees. It should reflect the essence of your presentation and provide a good taste of the content. Ask yourself: Who is this talk for? What are your key learning points? How will this impact and enrich attendees?
  3. Make it personal: Why is this topic important to you? How will it resonate with your audience?
  4. A well-thought-out outline: Show us how you plan to lead the audience through your talk. A well-structured outline helps us see the value and quality of your presentation.
  5. Avoid the traps : Be purposeful and focused. Remember that a good presentation fits into the conference theme and level.

The Security Festival is more than just a conference; it is an arena for knowledge sharing and networking. Your contribution can make a significant difference. Seize the opportunity to share your knowledge and passion with an engaged audience!

Program work for the Security Festival

The Norwegian Information Security Forum (ISF) is the main organizer of the Security Festival and it is carried out in close collaboration with several businesses and organizations that work with cybersecurity and privacy. ISF is a non-profit association run by professionals on a voluntary basis and all non-commercial partners contribute on a voluntary basis. Transparency about how the Security Festival is organized is important to us. Therefore, we would like to describe the process for working with the program.

First of all, we would like to thank all of you who chose to submit contributions. For the 2024 Security Festival, we received 452 presentations and there is agreement among the professional committees that there were a lot of good contributions to choose from. Thank you very much for your commitment!

The program for the Security Festival is made up of over 20 tracks with different numbers of lectures, mostly 30 minutes long. In 2025, these tracks will be held in parallel in 13-14 locations from Monday lunch to Wednesday lunch. The subject areas you can choose as 'Main tag' and 'Additional tags' in our Call for Presentations (CfP) correspond roughly to the tracks we envision creating. Each track has a committee chair and a number of participants, all of whom are specialists within the track's topic. The number of participants in a program committee depends primarily on the expected size of the track. The committee chair reports to the main committee in ISF, which is responsible for the overall quality and integrity of the program.

After the deadline for CfP, the committees' evaluation work begins and tracks are created for each subject area. Finally, it is put together into a comprehensive program. Our ambition is to get back to you with information about whether your presentation has been accepted or not within approximately 3-4 weeks after the deadline for CfP.

If your talk is selected for the program, you will be offered a free festival pass as a thank you and invited to a program dinner that will be held on Sunday, before the Security Festival starts. If you are two people who will give a 30 min. talk, it is possible for the other person to be offered a day pass for the day the talk is held.

We will ask all speakers to submit a draft of their presentation no later than two weeks before the Security Festival starts. The purpose is for our program committees to be able to help you with proofreading and provide input on areas for improvement. Here are examples of what they will typically look for and can be input for your work on your presentation:

  • Think about readability – color choices, text and background.
  • Limit the amount of text per slide.
  • Remember to allow 25 minutes for your presentation to allow for any questions. 10-15 slides are often enough (“Slide bonanza” is not fun)
  • Include references/sources for images, quotes.
  • Write out abbreviations in full.
  • Does the topic have a common thread? (background, problem/hypothesis, status/solutions, key points listeners should take away).
  • Storytelling is always good.
  • Look for advertising. Sales presentations are not allowed.
  • Demos are popular with the public.
